- Employ intelligent passive design to building form and
orientation, positioning south facing windows to maximise on
solar gain in winter (with roof overhangs to control overheating
in summer)
- Create flexibility in spatial arrangement for future adaptability,
extensions and adaptations.
- Utilise south facing main roof for photovoltaic and solar
panels.
- Green roofs: reduce surface water drainage, cleaner air,
attractive to look at, low maintenance
- Explore utilisation of river water as potential energy source.
- Consider ground source heat pumps and primary energy
source with back up form solar panels and/or water.
- Recycle existing building material from demolition as much as
possible eg. as hardcore to new sub structure
- Grey water re-cycling harvested form roofs, showers, basins
etc.
- Ensure good natural ventilation eg. Stack ventilation through
double height spaces and good cross ventilation through
building
- Source local labour and materials wherever possible.
