The main aim of the Junior Squad is to introduce young people (11 -18 Yrs) to the sport of rowing. With a view to future participation in top domestic events, the main Heads, National Schools, Junior Inter regional and Nation Championship regattas. The section has attained GOLD, SILVER and BRONZE medals at these events over the last two years.
The Junior Squad acts as a feeder to the senior sections of the club for those that wish to continue into adult hood, so another role of the squad is to show club juniors how to be good future club members.
The Junior Squad has access to dedicated equipment, specifically sized for Juniors as well as some larger craft for beginners. The Junior Squad has received equipment via the ARA’s ‘Project Oarsome’ scheme, and is regularly supported by the charity ‘YES’, Youth Experience in sport. We currently are linked with ‘London Youth Rowing’ which brings access to the facilities at the London Regatta Centre (Docklands) and Barn Elms on the River Thames and provides professional coaching to enable more session times and accessibility to local schools and youth organisations.
If you would like more information about the junior section please email the Junior Head Coach Ben Cox or the Community Sports Coach Dan Cooper.
